When you invest in quality underwear, it’s only natural to take good care of them to prolong their lifetime. You might think that paying this much for underwear means that it will outlive any washing machine and any washing program. But even premium quality does not mean indestructible. The finer the material is the more delicate it is. And Smoothshell™ happens to be a delicate fabrics. After all, the goal is to improve your comfort and aesthetics and make sure that this joyful feeling stays as long as possible. So by the time your order arrives, we want you to be ready to take care of them. Here’s how:
In normal use, Smoothshell™ is a very wear-resistant material, but when it gets rubbed against coarse-fibre textiles, sticker labels or sharp objects such as keys or tools, the fabric can become wrinkled. This is not a material defect but a phenomenon called Pilling, which mainly affects the looks of the product. There’s not much to do afterwards, but to regret. It's a bit like driving an expensive or a cheap car to the parking hall wall: both cars scratch just as easily – and in both cases the best way to prevent it is to avoid the wall.
The best solution is hand washing. Yes, it takes time, but it’s worth it. Use mild washing detergent, rinse properly and hang up to dry. Not a mission impossible.
If you really need to wash them in the machine the least damaging way to do so is to use a washing bag for delicates to keep the underwear separate from the rest of the laundry. Wash in 40 degrees using a mild detergent. Use a gentle cycle on your washing machine so that it agitates the clothing less in the wash. Wash with like colours and do not bleach or use any weird chemicals like stain removers, because many of those are corrosive. Finally: Skip the dryer, because the heat is the number one culprit of misshapen, shrunken, faded, and worn out underwear. The heat literally breaks down the elastic.
